Survive & Thrive: Compasses and Navigation

Have you ever wanted to learn to navigate without Google Maps or All Trails?

With the development of phenomenal GPS technology, navigation is a dying art (and skill!). If learning this skill has seemed out of reach, this is the perfect opportunity to dive right in.

Currently there are a large variety of compasses on the market, making it seem overwhelming to know which one is the "right" one for you. Join former USAF S.E.R.E. Specialist (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape), Jessie Krebs, to explore the intricacies of compasses and navigation concepts.

During this workshop, Jessie will cover the five basic needs of a survivor, outdoor travel techniques, and basic scouting techniques that can be used in many different scenarios.  You will have the opportunity to play with a variety of different compasses, learn basic concepts, and complete exercises that will help you develop confidence using them. You will leave this workshop with a newfound sense of empowerment.

If you have a compass and want to get better at using it—bring it along! It is not required that you purchase one for this class. By the end of the class you will have more clarity regarding the type of compass that fits your needs. Although there are many skills to navigation, learning how to use a compass substantially increases your chances of successful navigation!

About Jessie

A former USAF S.E.R.E. Specialist (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape), Jessie Krebs has felt a strong connection with wild places since her childhood in Michigan. After the military she pursued a BA in educational psychology, directed team building courses, and worked in wilderness therapy for over a decade. She now runs a survival school based out of the Denver area and is enjoying teaching global survival skills to folks that actually want to learn them for a change! A survivor of childhood abuse she finds the outdoors to be healing and empowering, and thus enjoys encouraging others to explore it safely and with confidence.
